Well, our wonderful summer has come to a close. Each day's run is met with falling yellow leaves and a "bite" in the air that reminds you winter is literally nipping at your heels. The mountains are about 40% covered with snow. Every week it will get a little bit lower down the mountains and then we'll be making snow angels for the next 7 months.
This time of the year the forest can smell a little rotten. I guess everything is dying out and the smell can be quite horrible. A wet, rotten dog is the best way to describe it.
Yesterday I went for around on a new trail. The trail isn't done yet, much to my dismay and I ended up running in the forest. Very eerie and spooky running in the woods. Every stump and fallen tree looks like a bear or a moose! The bears and moose can be cranky this time of year, so it's best to be very cautious when running in their backyard (so to speak). I had told myself I wasn't going to run in the forest any more because of the bears, but when the new trail ended it left with me nowhere else to really go. I'll try not to do it again.
Any one of my next blogs could definitely be about the "first" snowfall. Give me a freakin' break!!!

Let's see (I'm counting on my fingers and toes) I've got 31 months in a row with at least 100 miles in each of those months. After 3 more days of running I'll have month 32.
